The recreation dept. will run a summer tennis camp for children aged 7 years and up and who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This camp will be held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The sessions will run according to the following age groups: 7 and 8 years, 9 through 11 years and 12 years or older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program will be conducted in two-hour sessions. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:

A registration form may be picked up at village hall and sent to the recreation dept. at 351 Stewart Ave. All forms must be filled out completely and have payment attached. All checks should be made payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."

Those who would like to make their own form, please include all of the following information: child's name, address, phone number, emergency number, date of birth, grade in September, the words "Summer Tennis Camp" and the dates the child would like to attend. Remember: a child may sign up for a maximum of two one-week sessions. Sign the bottom and return to the recreation dept. at 351 Stewart Ave. with a check made out to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."

The recreation department is happy to announce the beginning of its registration for both boys and girls lacrosse camp for children who are residents of the village. This camp will be held on the fields at St. Paul's the week of July 8-11 and July 15-18. A child can sign up for either or both weeks. All equipment will be provided.

The sessions will run as follows: for boys and girls who will be in third or fourth grade in September - 8:30-10:30 a.m.; for boys and girls who will be in fifth or sixth grade in September - 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The recreation department will be following strict grade requirements for this program. The cost of each week of the camp will be $55. To register by mail immediately, registration forms may be picked up at village hall or St. Paul's and sent to the recreation department at 351 Stewart Avenue. All forms must be filled out completely and have payment attached. All checks should be made payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."

The recreation department is conducting tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the village. These lessons run in four-day sessions and are offered every two weeks. They began Monday, May 13. The lessons are held in the late afternoons and evenings at a cost of $60. Classes are offered at the novice, intermediate and advanced levels of play during each session. Call the recreation department at village hall for further information or for an application.

The recreation department's summer baseball camp is held for children ages 6-12 who are residents of the village. The camp will be held at Community Park during the weeks of July 22-25 and July 29-August 1. This instructional program is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for 6- to 8-year-olds and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for 9- to 12- year-olds. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the importance of playing together as a team.

The cost of the camp will be $55 for one week and $110 for two weeks. Children must be 6 by the start of the camp in order to register. A registration form can be picked up at village hall and sent to the recreation department at 351 Stewart Avenue. All forms must be filled out completely and have payment attached. All checks should be made payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City."

The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming men's softball league on Monday, June 10. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:

1. Teams comprised of current residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

2. Teams of players who resided in the village during their high school years.

3. Teams comprised of employees of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

The fee for this league will be $375. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package which includes a roster (names, addresses, phone numbers for each player), a signed consent form, a check for the league fee and copy of each player's current license. Roster packages are now available in the recreation office. The deadline for submitting applications will be Wednesday, June 19.

Any adult, male or female, who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, who is interested in playing in the recreation dept.'s summer softball may call the recreation department at 465-4075 and put their name on a waiting list. Established teams call when they need extra players: the department will pass all names on the list along to these teams.
