Second Bookspan Building Opens
Introduced as "Mr. 501" because he spearheaded major renovations to Bookspan's new corporate headquarters at that address on Franklin Avenue, Bill Gatti, senior vice president of Human Resources and Administration, described Friday's ribbon cutting ceremony as a "marriage of people and space and the reinforcement of need and harmony that it creates."

District Receives State Aid Increase
The Garden City School District will see a relief in state aid since the 2002-03 state budget has allocated a much-needed increase totaling more than $350,000. Despite financial challenges faced this year, Senator Kemp Hannon said he is pleased that the state is able to provide the district with a significant increase that will enable Garden City schools to provide the highest quality education possible, while keeping property taxes under control.

Open to all children of Little League age 10 through 12 (age as of 7/31/02.) This is a fun-filled event with games commencing on Friday, May 24 with play continuing on Saturday, May 25 and the championship games concluding on Sunday, May 26. There are no pre-set teams. Teams will be created based upon registration in each age group (10, 11, 12-year-olds.) Registration is limited to the first 48 players in each age group on a first come, first served basis. Coach pitching and no strikeouts unless it's swinging ensure these will be action-packed games. Each team will be guaranteed three games in a double elimination format. Applications had to be postmarked by May 18.

Recreation Department News
The recreation dept. will run a summer tennis camp for children aged 7 years and up and who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This camp will be held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The sessions will run according to the following age groups: 7 and 8 years, 9 through 11 years and 12 years or older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program will be conducted in two-hour sessions. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:
