By Richard V. Guardino, Jr., Supervisor, Town of Hempstead
The Town of Hempstead is proud to offer summer employment opportunities to young people 16 years and older. The Town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking young men and women to staff positions at various parks, beaches and pools.
This is an excellent employment opportunity for those who are off from high school or college for the summer and would like to work outdoors. Seasonal employees will work in a variety of areas including recreation, cultural events and maintenance activities. For those who enjoy working with children, there are also terrific openings in which you will be able to cultivate your own program for the day.
An added benefit to working at a town facility for the summer is proximity. It is extremely convenient for those with limited transportation to work at a local park, pool or beach.
The starting salary for seasonal employees is $7 an hour with a rate increase for each subsequent year of employment. Seasonal employees must work 40 hours per week and be available to work on weekends.
Those seeking summer employment are asked to schedule an interview with the Parks Department Personnel Office by calling 292-9000, ext. 226. The office is located at 200 North Franklin Street in Hempstead. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Additional information may be found by visiting the town website at www.townofhempstead.org. A parent or guardian must accompany applicants under the age of 18 when he or she applies. Each 16- and 17- year-old also must present working papers from a high school guidance counselor, a school ID with photo and a social security card.
By providing great opportunities for young people during the summer, the town is also maximizing its resources at a busy time of the year. We are truly looking forward to the commitment and dedication that our young people bring to the town's work force each summer.
