GC Police Arrest Vandals
Garden City Police Officer Buonaiuto arrested three males, a 17-year-old from Flushing, Queens, a 17-year-old from Whitestone, Queens and an 18-year-old from Bellerose, for allegedly throwing 10-inch metal railroad plate screws at random parked cars in the village on April 11-12. The screws weigh an estimated two pounds each. According to police reports, the alleged incidences took place on Stewart Avenue, Harrison Street, Hampton Road, Westbury Road and Euston Road. Fortunately, no one was reportedly in any of the cars at the time of the incidents.
Board of Education Tweaks 'Maintenance Budget'
An April 15 Board of Education work session enabled residents to offer feedback regarding the proposed 2002-03 school budget. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephen Leitman and his staff have carefully pruned the budget and are awaiting a green light from the board.

The Peter Coleman - Bob Jahelka - John Kufs third-grade lacrosse team opened their season with two quality road games. In the first game, the Rams traveled to Rockville Centre (RVC) to take on a very talented and resilient team. The Rams took a 3-1 half-time lead behind strong goaltending by Danny Flynn and D-Dogs James Raphael, Tommy Martis and Brendan McGovern. RVC roared back to start what would be a very exciting, "seesawing" second half, one that sported four lead changes.
Recreation Department News
The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming Men's "Over 35" Softball League on April 15. This league plays games on Sunday evenings throughout the spring and summer. Rosters will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:
