Village Board Holds Annual Reorganization Meeting
The Garden City Village Board of Trustees held their annual reorganization meeting on April 1. The following are appointments for the official year ending April 7, 2003 unless otherwise indicated.
What Will Become of Village Landmark?
The historic St. Paul's building stands in the village as Cornelia Stewart's memorial to her husband, Garden City founder Alexander T. Stewart. With overwhelming residential approval, the village acquired the Victorian Gothic structure on Stewart Avenue through condemnation from the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island in 1993. The 48.6-acre complex has since become an integral part of the community's heritage, providing space for athletic activities and community events, including the successful Breeders' Cup Garden City Community Fund Family Relief Fund Benefit held at the field house last October.
Recreation Department News
The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming Men's "Over 35" Softball League on April 15. This league plays games on Sunday evenings throughout the spring and summer. Rosters will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:
Applications for youth umpires for the 8-9-year-old divisions are currently being accepted. Candidates must be 13 or over. Applications may be picked up at the recreation office, St. Paul's or can be printed from the website.
