Joseph Donald Colahan, a longtime resident of Garden City and Nassau Point, Cutchogue, died peacefully with his family beside him, on Feb. 21, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in NYC, Donald moved to Garden City as a young man. After graduating from Xavier High School, he served with the US Navy in WWII and later attended Fordham University.

In 1950, Donald joined Colahan Printing Company, a firm founded by his father. After the death of his father, Donald acquire OE Saunders & Company in 1961. For many years thereafter, Donald held the position of president of Colahan-Saunders Corporation. His business career included the acquisition of several printing firms, most notably Globe Printing. He was active professionally in Young Printing Executives Club, Master Printers and Printing Industries of NY, now the Association of Graphic Communications.

Donald loved Garden City and was active in community affairs. He served as library trustee, was involved in the Estates Property Owners Association and volunteered with the Garden City Athletic Association. An active member of The Cherry Valley Club and North Fork Country Club, he was a board member of both and served as vice president of North Fork. He was also a member of The Johns Island Club in Florida.

Donald was known as a true student of Irish history and culture. In recent years, he was a familiar sight on the sidelines at local lacrosse, soccer and field hockey games, enthusiastically rooting for his grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his wife Jane (DuMont); daughter Laurie Jane Burke of Garden City; sons J. Randolph Colahan of Garden City and Peter D. Colahan of Rye, NY; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Cunningham of Garden City and Anne Vaughan of Vero Beach, FL.

Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis Hospital Development Dept., 100 Port Washington Blvd., Roslyn, NY 11574.

Amy B. Duffy, 79, of Garden City, died on Feb. 26, 2002. Wife of the late John. Mother of Ellen Pecina (Ron), David (Nancy) and John. Grandmother of Ronnie Jr., Amy, David Jr., Adrienne and Paul. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.
