Good Luck to both the Adelphi Women's and Men's Panthers at their shot in the playoffs!
The No. 17 nationally ranked Panthers concluded their regular season breaking two school records. For the first time, they claimed a regular season NYCAC title and claimed two spots on the Verizon Academic All-America District I team. Adelphi was the only school to list two athletes in the college division, making it the first time in school history. Senior forward Kelly Arthurs and junior guard Alexis Seeley were each named to the Second Team.
Arthurs, who boasts a 3.38 grade point average, has started every game for the Panthers this season and leads the team in rebounds (9.0) and blocks (2.1). She is currently ranked 24th in the nation and second in the NYCAC in blocked shots.
For Seeley, a two-time NYCAC player of the week and ECAC player of the week, this is her second Verizon Academic Award. A communications major with a 3.7 grade point average, she was named to the Second Team last year as well. Seeley currently leads Adelphi in scoring (12.3) and free throw percentage (80.8).
The Adelphi University Panthers, under the direction of head coach Kim Barnes-Arico, finished the regular season with a 24-2 overall record, 20-2 in the NYCAC.
Senior forward Kendell Craig tied the Adelphi single-game three point record in their final game of the regular season, going 8-for-12 on his way to a game-high 26 points to lead the Panthers to an 87-59 win over Mercy. With the win, Adelphi finished the regular season 25-1 overall and 21-1 in the NYCAC. Senior forward Eddie Williams had 16 points, pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.
Three-pointers were raining for the Panthers as they shot a season-high 15 field goals from beyond the arc. The Panthers built up a comfortable 30-point lead (62-32) at the 10-minute mark, which Mercy was unable to recover from. Adelphi shot 50.7 percent on the game, including a sizzling 50 percent from three-point range.
The Adelphi record of eight three-pointers in a single game was set earlier this season by junior forward Wayne Nelson. Nelson earned career-high 31 points, including 8-for-11 from three-point range, on Dec. 15 at NY Tech.

There are over 12 classes a week specifically for adults at the school. When interviewed adult students comment that beyond the obvious health and defense goals that are reached, they are finding other interesting awards. One man in his 50s who trains with his two sons noted that after a long day at work coming to the studio is "An hour of vacation time."
