Open registration for Little League Baseball and Girls Softball is underway. Preprinted applications were mailed to all participants who played last spring. Additional applications are available at the Garden City Recreation Department in Village Hall and St. Paul's or may be printed from the web site http://www.gc-aa.com
The deadline for open registration is Feb. 15. Applications postmarked after Feb. 15, will require a late fee of $25 in addition to the applicable league fee and will be accepted on the condition that if no position is available in the correct league, your application will be rejected and all registration fees returned.
The GCAA is again organizing winter baseball and softball clinics in the St. Paul's Field House. Registration will be conducted at the clinics. The clinic registration fee is $25. Girls Expanded Softball Clinic - For girls in 4th grade and up. Thursdays on Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. Basics of throwing, fielding, hitting and pitching will be taught by Varsity Coach Charlie Fischer and, for the first time, members of Clutch Hitting Baseball and Softball Academy. One additional evening clinic will be held for girls 8th grade and up on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Charlie Fischer will be available for questions from the parents at this clinic. 2nd and 3rd Grade Baseball Clinic - Led by members of Clutch Hitting Baseball and Softball Academy on Tuesdays from 7:30 - 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 5, 12, 26 and March 5. Parent volunteers are needed at this clinic.
Applications for youth umpires for our 8/9-year-old divisions are currently being accepted. Candidates must be 13 or over. Applications may be picked up at the GC Recreation Office, St. Paul's or can be printed from the web site.
The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club, Garden City Rams Lacrosse and the Garden City Athletic Association formed a cooperative group together with Garden City resident Dr. Joe Pando of Sport Psychology Consulting. The group's objective is to define and communicate appropriate goals, objectives and model behavior for coaches and parents, to keep youth sports in the proper perspective for the benefit of the children, coaches and parents in all our programs. Did you know that the Centennial soccer club has its own website? Please log on to www.gccentennialsoccer.org for soccer news and information. Applications for spring intramural soccer are now available and are due back by March 1. Children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall are eligible to play soccer in the spring. Intramural soccer is open to boys in Pre-K through grade six and to girls in Pre-K through grade 12. Please pick up applications at the Recreation Office in Village Hall or off the website at www.gccentennialsoccer.org. The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is now looking for individuals who would be interested in coaching boys and girls born between Aug. 1, 1992 and Dec. 31, 1993 at the travel level. The position would begin with the September 2002 travel season. Interested individuals should contact Sandy Young at 739-1305 for further information or to receive an application. All applications must be received by Jan. 31 in order to be considered.
