The National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) named its 2001 Academic Award winners with Adelphi University as one of only 36 schools to win this honor for both their men's and women's programs.

The NSCAA names a total of 229 institutions of higher learning whose soccer teams compiled a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average for the 2000-01 academic year and whose coaches are current NSCAA members. The teams represent all levels of play, from NCAA Division I to NAIA and junior college.

The Adelphi women's team, coached by Rich Ilsley, finished the 2001 season with a 14-2-1 record, reclaiming the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1997. The men's team, led by Head Coach Robert Montgomery, competes at the Division I level in the Atlantic Soccer Conference and finished 8-8-1 overall.

The awards will be presented at the College Coaches Luncheon at the 2002 NSCAA Convention Thursday, Jan. 17 in Philadelphia.

Students at Charles Water's Karate & Fitness received belt promotions after successfully completing a series of extensive exams.
