Want a way to stay in shape during the holidays? The Recreation Department's adult sports programs are a way to stay in shape while having fun. We offer basketball and volleyball according to the following schedule:

All programs are for residents of the Village of Garden City only. Proof of residency is required. Participants must be 18 years or older and cannot attend high school. For further information, call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.
The Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of the Winter Elementary School Gym Program. This program, under the direction of Rich Anderson, will provide children in grades 3 to 5 the opportunity to participate in organized games such as basketball and hockey in a supervised setting. No registration is necessary. Sneakers are required for all gym activities.
This program began on Monday, Dec. 3 in the St. Paul's field house according to the following schedule.
Boys, grades 3 to 5 - Mondays, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Girls, grades 3 to 5 - Fridays from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
The program will run until the beginning of March. For further information, please call the Recreation office at 465-4075.
The Recreation Department is pleased to announce that once again this winter, the field house will be open to middle and high school aged children who are residents of the village for basketball, volleyball and other activities.
Children of this age are encouraged to come to the field house after school and have fun with friends in an organized setting. The gym will be supervised during this time. Sneakers are a must for any gym activity.
The gym will be open according to the following schedule:
Middle School students: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
High School students: Wednesdays and Thursdays - 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Program Note: This time is made available for school-aged children to have fun with their friends in a supervised setting. This time is not available for organized team practices.
There are openings still available in the Monday and Thursday morning preschool arts and crafts classes held at Cluett Hall. This program is open to village children who are 3 1/2 to 5 years old. The new session began Dec. 3. The cost of the eight-week session is $32. Call the Recreation Department at 465-4075 for more information.
The Recreation Department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make the commitment to being part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for our residents, we'd like to talk to you!
If you are presently a high school junior or older and are ready to make a commitment for a great summer job, stop in at the Recreation Office in Village Hall, pick up an application, and schedule an appointment for an interview.
Reminder: even if you were employed by the pool last year, you are still required to reapply and be interviewed for the upcoming season.
Interviews will be conducted on the following dates -
Friday, Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No interviews will be conducted without an appointment and positions will not be offered to applicants without an interview.
Looking for some great stocking stuffers! The Recreation Department has tickets to some of the best events the Coliseum has to offer. The following tickets are available:
Disney on Ice at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, cost per ticket: $20
Disney on Ice at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, cost per ticket: $20
Harlem Globetrotters at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, cost per ticket: $22
US Hot Rod Monster Jam at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, cost per ticket: $20 per adult, $12 per child.
Please note: Transportation on the recreation bus and supervision by the recreation staff is available for the Saturday, Jan. 19 morning Disney on Ice show only. The bus will leave Village Hall at 10:15 a.m. and will return to the same location after the show. Just sign up at the Recreation Office when you buy your tickets.
Tickets are available now for these shows on a first come, first serve basis at the Recreation Department in Village Hall. Tickets are available to residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City only. Each person may buy a maximum of six tickets. Tickets must be paid for in cash only, no checks please. For further information or to reserve tickets, please call 465-4075.
The Recreation Department is offering a series of guitar lessons for residents on Wednesday evenings in Cluett Hall. Lessons will begin on Jan. 9 and will be held according to the following schedule:
Beginner Guitar for Teens (6th grade or older) 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Guitar for Adults 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The cost of this ten-week session is $35. A small fee for books and supplies will be payable to the instructor. Students must provide their own guitars.

Electronic Keyboard lessons will be offered to our residents (sixth grade and older) on Wednesday evenings in Cluett Hall starting Jan. 9.
Lessons will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will run for 10 weeks. The course will focus on reading and playing basic piano music. The cost of this session will be $35. There will be a small expense payable to the instructor for music books. Students must provide their own keyboard.

Now that the fall soccer season is over, it is not too early to sign up for spring intramural soccer. Applications can be obtained at the Recreation Dept. in Village Hall or at St. Paul's.
Any child interested in playing on intramural tournament teams for the winter season should call Sandy Young at 739-1305 for further information or to indicate interest. This program is open to boys and girls in grades two and up.
