A Verity Van Lines moving truck, transporting various pieces of furniture, didn't quite clear the Cherry Valley Avenue overpass last Monday afternoon, causing a portion of the road to be closed for hours.

The van hit the overpass, severely damaging the van and furniture. The driver was not injured but the passenger suffered minor neck injuries, Garden City police said last week, and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Lt. Joseph Lennon said Long Island Rail Road service was temporarily suspended and the accident also affected LIPA's (Long Island Power Authority) electric service. "We wanted to make sure that no one was going to get electrocuted if they touched that truck," Lt. Lennon said.

Cherry Valley Avenue is a Nassau County road and the overpass, which has seen several of the same accidents in the past, has a sign posted on it stating 10'-4".
