The Recreation Department will sponsor a mixed doubles platform Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Garden City Community Park. The evening will include round robin play, food and refreshments at $20 per couple. There is a 12 team limit for this evening. Call Steve at 483-2525 to reserve a space. Community Park will offer beginner platform tennis lessons to women at 12 and 1 p.m. on Thursdays this season. Each lesson will last one hour. You too can take center stage! This winter the Recreation Department is giving you that chance. We will be sponsoring an acting workshop for children ages 8 to 12. This program will be run by Maureen O'Gara, a theater student At Boston University School for the Arts. Maureen has produced many wonderful shows for the village, including the memorable Wizard of Oz.

This workshop will run from Dec. 27 to Jan. 11, and finish with a presentation on Jan. 12. The times of this workshop will be as follows:

Dec. 27 - 30 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Jan. 2 - 11 6 to 8 p.m.

No class on Jan. 5 or 6

The 2nd session of Preschool Arts and Crafts will begin on Monday, Dec. 3. This popular program will be held at Cluett Hall under the direction of Grace Chianese. Each child registers for one of the following days - Monday at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. or Thursday at 10:45 a.m. The class runs for 45 minutes, lasts eight weeks and costs $32.

The following criteria has been established for this program -

1. Children must be 3 1/2 years by Dec. 3 and must not be in kindergarten.

2. Children must be toilet trained.

3. Children must be able to stay at the program alone.

Registration will be held at Cluett Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment is due at the time of registration. Please make all checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City."

The Junior Ladder Match Play Program is set to begin on Sunday, Dec. 2. This is a great opportunity for children ages 10 - 18 to compete in a weekly tennis match prearranged and formatted to fit his/her playing level. All matches are played on Sundays for one hour between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The cost of this program is $130.

The Recreation Department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the pool. If you enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make the commitment to being part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for our residents, we'd like to talk to you!

If you are presently a high school junior or older and are ready to make a commitment for a great summer job, stop in at the Recreation Office in Village Hall, pick up an application, and schedule an appointment for an interview.

Reminder: even if you were employed by the pool last year, you are still required to reapply and be interviewed for the upcoming season.

Interviews will be conducted on the following dates -
