The field house will be closed from Wednesday, Nov. 21 through Monday, Nov. 26 for setup and cleanup of the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. All programs scheduled in the field house on these days are cancelled.
The Recreation Department will sponsor a mixed doubles platform Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Garden City Community Park. The evening will include round robin play, food and refreshments at $20 per couple. There is a 12 team limit for this evening. Call Steve at 483-2525 to reserve a space.
Community Park will offer beginner platform tennis lessons to women at 12 and 1 p.m. on Thursdays this season. Each lesson will last one hour. For more information, call Steve at Community Park at 483-2525.
The Recreation Department will sponsor a beginner platform clinic for men on Friday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. at Community Park. There will be a nominal charge for this event, given by Sue Tarzian and Steve Espey. Call 483-2525 for further details.
With the cooperation of Adelphi University, arrangements have been made to allow adult village residents the use of Adelphi's indoor swimming pool as part of the Recreation Department's programs. One-hour swim sessions are available at 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. every Monday through Thursday. Adult residents wishing to take advantage of this program can sign up for a one-hour session by calling the Rec Department at 465-4075 before 3 p.m. on the day they wish to swim.
Participants will be required to show proof of residency when they arrive at Adelphi and must fill out a program registration form. This program will not run during holidays or on days that Adelphi is closed. For additional information, call 465-4075.
Congratulations to this past summer's Junior Tennis Team players for coming in third place at the Long Island Junior USTA Teams playoffs. Tryouts for this fall's team will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. for children who did not play for the Recreation Department's summer team. Tryouts will be held at Community Park's Tennis Center. All children who wish to try out must be able to sustain a rally of several shots, volley and serve and must have a basic understanding of the rules of tennis. All summer team players should call the Tennis Center at 483-2525 to confirm interest in playing for this fall's team. The tryout schedule is as follows:
