Residents scheduled for recycling on Thanksgiving Day are asked to put their recyclables out on Thursday, Nov. 29.
The Turkey Trot Committee of Garden City, Inc. will conduct its 24th annual Merrill Lynch Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. The race will form at the St. Paul's School with the 1.4-mile run beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the 5-mile run scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Net proceeds will be donated for the benefit of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year they will earmark a significant portion of net receipts for the Garden City Family Relief Fund to benefit Garden City families affected by the attack on America.
Special thanks to the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion of Garden City for conducting the annual Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11. We appreciate all that they do to honor and remember those men and women who have given of their lives in support of our country.
With the village streets lined with leaves comes the exposure of automobile fires. Residents are reminded not to park in areas where leaves have fallen or have been raked into piles.
Each year the Fire Department responds to numerous vehicle fires in which the catalytic converter was in contact with the leaves and ignited them. Because of the high temperatures given off, these fires usually cause major damage.
