Village Wins Award for Franklin Avenue Project
The Village of Garden City has won the 2001 American Public Works Association Award for its Franklin Avenue project, which beautified the village's now bustling downtown area from Sixth Street to Eleventh Street, with new curbs, sidewalks, gutters, lampposts, plantings, bus shelters and more.

Residents Request Traffic Review
At Thursday's village board meeting, area residents collectively urged trustees to recommend that the Village Traffic Commission further probe the Franklin Avenue/Fourth Street intersection, particularly in light of a Nov. 5 car accident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old fifth-grader at St. Joseph's. While some admit installing a traffic signal might not be the solution, all feel the area bears further scrutiny.

Annual High School Father-Son Football Classic
The Men's Association of Garden City presents the fifth annual father-son football classic Sunday, Dec. 9 at St. Paul's field. The games will start at 11 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Six father teams will compete against six son teams in a three-game series for the highly coveted championship trophy.
