The Village of Garden City has won the 2001 American Public Works Association Award for its Franklin Avenue project, which beautified the village's now bustling downtown area from Sixth Street to Eleventh Street, with new curbs, sidewalks, gutters, lampposts, plantings, bus shelters and more. At Thursday's village board meeting, area residents collectively urged trustees to recommend that the Village Traffic Commission further probe the Franklin Avenue/Fourth Street intersection, particularly in light of a Nov. 5 car accident that claimed the life of a 10-year-old fifth-grader at St. Joseph's. The Men's Association of Garden City presents the fifth annual father-son football classic Sunday, Dec. 9 at St. Paul's field.
