Six William Smith College field hockey players were named National Field Hockey Coaches Association North Atlantic Region All-Americans, including sophomore Jessica Kulesa of Garden City. Kulesa represents the Herons on the second team.

Kulesa started 14 of the Herons' 18 games this season, posting a record of 12-2. The goalie recorded 3.5 shutouts, a goals against average of .96 and a save percentage of .878 in 1,025 minutes. Like her teammate, Sheila McKevitt, Kulesa is a member of the NYSWCAA second team.

The Hewlett Bulldogs defeated the Garden City Trojans 16-0 behind the running of Tom Mobilia and a 76-yard punt return by Jon Amoona. Garden City came out throwing the football but the Hewlett defense was up to the task with three first half interceptions never allowing the Garden City offense to gain momentum. In the first quarter following the first Hewlett interception on the Garden City 38-yard line Hewlett advanced the ball to the 15 behind the running of Mobilia. Here the Trojan's defense stopped Hewlett and the Bulldogs had to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Amanca Miller.

In the second quarter following the second Hewlett interception at the Garden City 43-yard line the Bulldogs again advanced the ball behind the running of Mobilia. Mobilia was rewarded as he caught a 5-yard touchdown pass in the right flat from quarterback Dan Covorde. The kick was no good and Hewlett led 9-0 at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter Hewlett recovered a Trojan fumble at the Garden City 27-yard line but the Garden City defense held with the big play being a Mike Sarcona quarterback sack and Garden City took over. The offense once again could not move the ball and was forced to punt. Bulldog punt returner Jon Amoona fielded the ball at his own 24-yard line and made a beautiful 76-yard return for a touchdown down the left sideline to make the score Hewlett 16 Garden City 0 with 5:53 left in the third quarter. Conor O'Brien, alternating with Steve DeGrazia at quarterback in the second half, was able to make a few nice scrambles on offense for the Trojans but they were never able to sustain a drive.

A bright spot in the game for the Trojans was the defensive play of senior Mark Sarcona who was all over the field in both the first and second halves making key tackles. The Trojans have qualified for the Conference II playoffs as the number four seed.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, the girls' soccer team won the title of County Champs as they faced New Hyde Park. The game was scoreless throughout regulation play. There were many shots taken on goal, but were unfortunately blocked. The game went into two 10-minute overtimes.

In the first overtime, GC came onto the field ready to win. They were more mentally and physically prepared for overtime than NHP. Shortly after the overtime began, senior Kerin Boghosian scored to put GC up 1-0. Boghosian was alone in the front of the goal, and the NHP goalie came out to try to recover the ball before Boghosian could get control of it. Boghosian then kicked the ball into the right side of the goal to score and win the game for GC. Tara McKennett had many key saves to ensure the GC win. The Garden City defense played an outstanding game. Delia Mueller and Allie Lloyd had many clears to make sure the ball wouldn't get through to McKennett. A great game was played throughout. When the second overtime ran out, the GC team ran out onto the field and a player screamed, "County Champs!"

On Saturday, Nov. 10, the overtime victory did not hold true for GC. The girls faced Rocky Point in a grueling match up. The game was scoreless throughout both halves, and the first overtime. However, late in the second overtime, Rocky Point managed to score off of a corner kick. GC seemed to outplay Rocky Point throughout the game, but unfortunately, the score did not show it. After a great season, and becoming the County Champions, the girls' spectacular season has come to an end.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, the girls' field hockey team faced Miller Place for the title of Long Island Champion. The girls played a great game. After many shots on goal in the first half, Brittany Barnett scored off a rebound to put GC up 1-0. With the help of an outstanding defense, the girls managed to keep the score 1-0 throughout the game. Goalie Amie Roe made many key saves to ensure the win. Meghan Rose also played a great game on defense, making sure Miller Place wouldn't tie the score. The game was back and forth, but luckily the GC defense held up to become the Long Island Champions! The girls are leaving Friday morning to go onto Syracuse for the state finals.
