Ethel (Pat) Duley Masterson, of Garden City, died on Oct. 22, 2001. Wife of the late Robert. Sister of Peggy Ann Witten and the late Virginia Loisel. Aunt of 16 nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Chapel, Garden City. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. William I. Hammond, Major USAF Ret., 79, formerly of Garden City, died on Oct. 24, 2001. He was born in NYC and received his BS from NYU and MS from MIT. Major Hammond piloted P-47 Thunderbolts during WWII, participating in the D-Day Invasion. He also served in the Korean War. He was a decorated war veteran receiving many awards and medals including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was later a commanding officer at Mitchell Field. After retiring he worked in several construction and development projects in the US and abroad. Husband of Helen Adelhardt Hammond. Father of Drew Hammond, Claudia Hammond Chapman, Lauren Hammond Ugalde and France and Douglas Hammond. Grandfather of seven. Arrangements were made by the Spear Funeral Home, Fairfield, CT. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church. Interment Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.
