Village's Alfresco Dining Code Under Review
Village Mayor Robert Lewis appointed a committee of village trustees, including Gerry Lundquist and Peter Negri, to review Garden City's Alfresco Dining Code. A third committee member is still being decided, according to Village Clerk Brian Ridgway. Mayor Lewis specifically called for a review of the code, which studies the village's outdoor dining hours and furniture at restaurants like Waterzooi, Seventh Street Cafe and Maxwell's before next season. Ridgway notes the committee is not reviewing one specific restaurant but the entire local law.

Just minutes before they expected to lead Garden City High School's annual Homecoming Parade last Saturday, more than 40 volunteer and six career firefighters responded to an apartment blaze at 365 Stewart Avenue.

Five Garden City turnovers and a sputtering offense led to a Trojan defeat at the hands of the South Side Cyclones. South Side opened the scoring on an 84-yard run around left end by halfback Bryant Daniels with 9:59 left in the half. The kick was good and South Side led 7-0. But Garden City came back with a 50-yard drive that ended with a nice scoring run up the middle by Dan Flannery. Scott Gehnrich's kick was good and the score was tied at the half 7-7. Garden City's scoring drive was the result of the running of Dan Oppedisano and Flannery and the blocking of the Garden City offensive line.
