We wanted to write to thank the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps for helping us out several weeks ago and to let our neighbors know how fortunate we are to have them during a time of need. Unfortunately, Warren was injured during rescue operations at the World Trade Center. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he spent the first few days of his recovery. Fortunately, his injuries were not life threatening, but he was devastated at not being able to see his children, particularly after such a harrowing ordeal. Thanks to some very special volunteers, we were able to move him to Winthrop Hospital. Thank you especially Joe Pungello, Melissa Devlin, and John Kessler for taking time out of your day during all the chaos that was going on to transport Warren on Friday, Sept. 14. These volunteers were gracious and helpful at a time when neither of us was able to think clearly. They took care of the entire transfer, paperwork and all. They made a difficult trip much more pleasant. Their good nature and willingness to assist helped to brighten a very dark time. We will always be grateful for the kind and professional manner in which they handled this unprecedented situation. They are very special people, and have obviously been well trained by other equally special people.
We've always admired the volunteers and appreciated all the time and energy they devote to helping the village, but until recently, we never had a personal experience with them. I pray we never need to use the services of the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps again, but it is very comforting to know that if the need should arise, they will be there to handle matters once again.
