  • NEWS: An Update on GCCF's Family Relief Fund

    During the Sept. 20 Garden City Village Board meeting, trustees unanimously approved the use of St. Paul's field house for the upcoming "Breeders' Cup Garden City Community Fund (GCCF) Family Relief Fund Benefit." The event, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26, starting at 7:30, is a gala that was already planned on a smaller scale and originally set to take place in a tent at the Garden City Hotel to celebrate the NY Racing Association Breeders' Cup race on Oct. 27. The Village Music Makers will provide entertainment for the event while various restaurants in Garden City are donating food and beverages. FULL STORY

  • NEWS: GC Police Officer Nearly Shot

    On Monday, Sept. 17, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Garden City Police Officer William Petito was on a special traffic post on Franklin Avenue, observing traffic in a school zone, when he observed an auto approaching at a high rate of speed. When Officer Petito attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused. Officer Petito then radioed for assistance and followed the vehicle into Hempstead, according to Garden City Det/Sgt Bartkowski.   • SPORTS: Nassau County Postpones High School Football Games

    In the wake of the tragedy surrounding the terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington D.C., Nassau County has opted to postpone the start of the high school football season until the weekend of Sept. 22. The decision was made after an early morning meeting last Thursday between the athletic executive boards of Nassau and Suffolk County. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Stewart Manor Athlete Named 'Tennis Player of the Week'

    Western New England College freshman Tricia Troiano of Stewart Manor was recently named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She posted a 4-0 record in singles and doubles competition last week in wins over Worcester State College and Saint Joseph College. Troiano has an overall record of 5-1 for the Golden Bears, who recently played a match at Curry College Sept. 18. FULL STORY
