Registration has begun for the fall Dance Conservatory program. The Conservatory is a non-recital program that is dedicated to providing residents with quality, low-fee dance instruction in a non-competitive and positive environment.

Classes will be held at Cluett Hall beginning the week of Sept. 24. Children aged 4 and up are encouraged to register immediately by mail only. No walk-in registrations will be available at this time. As this is an extremely popular program and some classes are already filled, interested residents are encouraged to mail in their registrations early. The Recreation Dept. is not responsible for delays in the mail.

Registration forms can be picked up at the Recreation Office in Village Hall. In lieu of this form, submit a note with child's name, address, phone number, age, grade and indicate by code the first and second choice of classes. Full payment must accompany the registration form. Please make checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City." Mail the form, with payment, to the Recreation Department at 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City NY 11530. In-person registrations are now being accepted for any remaining classes.

The Recreation Department is pleased to announce the start of an adult ballet/workout class for residents. This class will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at Cluett Hall starting Sept. 26. The one-hour class will combine basic ballet technique along with stretching and strengthening exercises. This class will run 18 weeks and costs $108.

To register by mail only, send a note listing your name, address, phone number and the code "ADBALLET" with a check made out to the "Inc. Village of Garden City" for $108. Mail checks to the Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530.

The registration evening for Women's Wednesday Night Platform Tennis League was changed to Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. Three levels of play were offered with matches beginning at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

With the approach of the fall season, many residents are looking forward to the indoor tennis season at Community Park. In order to get the women's leagues off and running as soon as the indoor season begins, both singles and doubles leagues are being offered. The staff will supply balls, take care of the rotation and help secure substitute players. Registration will begin on Monday, Sept. 10. Full payment is due at the time of registration. There are still openings available in the Monday and Thursday preschool arts and crafts classes. These classes are held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall and are 45 minutes long. Children who reside in Garden City and are 3 1/2 to 5 years old are eligible. Come to the Recreation Dept. at Village Hall or call 465-4065 for more information. Classes started Monday, Sept. 17.

The popular program of "Drop In" tennis lessons, which is traditionally held at Grove Park, will be returning this fall and continue until Sept. 27. This program will be under the direction of Susan Tarzian and Dennis Mah. The schedule will be as follows:

Tuesdays, 9 -10 a.m.

"Beginner Tennis" (fundamentals of the game)

"Women's Learn & Play Doubles-Adv./Beg./Intermediate" (fundamentals/strategy of the game of doubles)

"Coached While Playing Doubles-Intermediate" (strategy of the doubles while playing)

The cost of these lessons will be $5 per player for the one-hour classes and $10 per player for the two-hour classes. Fees are payable at the courts at the time of the lesson and pre-registration is not necessary. For further information, call the Recreation Dept. at 465-4076.
