Terrorists Destroy Twin Towers
Tuesday, Sept. 11 - At 8:45 a.m. a hijacked American Airlines passenger jet crashed into one of the 110-story Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. 18 minutes later a second hijacked American Airlines passenger jet crashed into the other tower. Both crashes caused firey explosions and within an hour and a half both of the towers collapsed.

Garden City Schools Open With 3,942 Students --
On Wednesday, Sept. 5, almost 4,000 eager and enthusiastic students and 342 teachers entered the Garden City Public Schools to begin the 2001-02 school year. Summer Staff Development programs explored many academic areas at all grade levels.

GC Police Lieutenant Helps Launch Safety Campaign
Garden City Police Lieutenant Kenneth Jackson recently helped launch the Automobile Club of New York's 56th annual "School's Open - Drive Carefully" campaign by mounting traffic safety posters in the community, specifically at the village's police headquarters, to help alert drivers to be extra careful as thousands of local students returned to school.

Recreation Department News
The Garden City Recreation Dance Conservatory is pleased to announce its upcoming eighth season. The Conservatory is a non-recital program that is dedicated to providing residents of the village with quality, low-fee dance instruction in a noncompetitive and positive environment. Classes will be held at Cluett Hall beginning the week of Sept. 24. Children aged 4 and up are encouraged to register.

Residents Hone Lax Skills at Cam
During the first week of August, a week of record-breaking heat, the second annual Kelly Amonte girls' lacrosse camp drew more than 160 young players from all over Long Island. The girls, ranging in age from 8-16, arrived everyday to learn skills from some of the most accomplished players and coaches in the United States.
