It's a sure sign that summer is coming to a close when the athletic fields become filled with students and coaches. Following fall physicals on Monday, Aug. 27, students began gearing up for the fall sports season

Nancy Kalafus, athletic director, anticipates another challenging and successful year with athletes and school athletes achieving their goals. Garden City students have been consistently recognized by New York State for their scholar athlete teams.

Since the inception of the Scholar Athlete Program in 1993, Garden City High School teams have won 17 state championships and team scholar athlete awards. In addition, every varsity team has finished in the state tope 10 academically. Every varsity team has also been the first, second or third highest academic average on Long Island for their sport.

Residents are invited to attend all sporting events and activities. Check the school calendar, pages 23-24, for the fall sports schedule.
