Bring a smile to a pre-schooler's face as they complete their own craft project each week during this eight-week program, which will be conducted by Grace Chianese. Your child can choose one of the following sessions: Mondays at 10:45 a.m.; Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m.; or Thursdays at 10:45 a.m.

This program will be held in Cluett Hall on the former St. Paul's campus. Classes will begin the week of Sept. 17 and are 45 minutes long. Registration will be held at Cluett Hall Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m.

The following guidelines have been established for this program:

-children must be 31/2 to 5 years old;

-children must not be in kindergarten;

-children must be toilet trained;

-children must be able to stay at the program alone; and

-there will be a maximum of 15 children in each class.

The cost of this program is $32 per child. Additional sessions will be in December and March and registrations will be announced for these sessions at a later date. For additional information call the Recreation Department at 465-4076.

The Garden City Recreation Dance Conservatory is pleased to announce its upcoming eighth season. The Conservatory is a non-recital program that is dedicated to providing residents of the village with quality, low-fee dance instruction in a non-competitive and positive environment. At the end of each semester, family and friends are invited to celebrate the student's personal growth at our complimentary "Demonstration Class." The Dance Conservatory will offer the following types of instruction:

Preschool and Kindergarten Creative Movement

The recommended place for young beginners to explore movement and imagination through dramatic play to music using the basic principles of Modern Dance.

Creative Dance I, II

A more sophisticated version of Creative Movement that greater expands on Modern Dance principles by furthering the use of imagination with improvisational dancing while focusing on finer technique.

Ballet

The classical dance form that is the ideal foundation for all dance.

Tap

The fun and exciting American dance form, great for developing rhythm and timing.

Hip Hop Jazz

The popular contemporary dance style is teamed up with a traditional jazz dance workout and technique making this a fun yet physical class.

Modern Dance

An intellectually artistic dance form that focuses on innovation of movement as well as the Horton technique as a mature form of Creative Dance.

African/Modern

An exhilarating, fast paced class that uses Modern Dance technique combined with authentic African dance combinations.

The basketball camp shirts have now been delivered. If residents did not receive their shirt at camp, they are urged to call the Village Hall Recreation Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to pick one up. The department apologizes for any inconvenience this might have caused.

The popular program of "Drop In" tennis lessons, which is traditionally held at Grove Park, will be returning this fall beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5 and will continue until Sept. 27. This program will be under the direction of Susan Tarzian and Dennis Mah. The schedule will be as follows:

Tuesdays, 9 -10 a.m.

"Beginner Tennis" (fundamentals of the game)

Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon

"Women's Learn & Play Doubles-Adv./Beg./Intermediate" (fundamentals/strategy of the game of doubles)

Wednesdays, 9 -10 a.m.

"Advanced Beginner"

Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon

"Coached While Playing Doubles-Intermediate" (strategy of the doubles while playing)

Thursdays, 9 -10 a.m.

"Intermediate Lessons" (improving strokes and developing strategies)

Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon

"Coached While Playing Doubles-Intermediate/Advanced Players"

The cost of these lessons will be $5 per player for the one-hour classes and $10 per player for the two-hour classes. Fees are payable at the courts at the time of the lesson and pre-registration is not necessary. For further information, call the Recreation Dept. at 465-4076.
