Democratic County Exec Candidates Debate Issues
New York State Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli and Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi, Democratic candidates for Nassau County executive, squared off August 6 in the first of three debates sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
The Clock Is Ticking...
The 90-day mark is approaching for the Garden City Village Board to issue findings regarding the village's proposed condemnation of one of three 100 by 250-foot lots owned by the Gardner Estate, located at 114 Sixth Street. Efforts between village officials and John Amrod, Gardner Estate attorney, to negotiate a fair purchase price have failed and led to the decision to condemn the lot. Trustee John Mauk said the board is expected to issue findings at the Aug. 16 board meeting.

The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is accepting applications for girl's intramural soccer for the fall season. The deadline has been extended until Aug. 15. Applications received after Monday, Aug. 17 must include the $25 late fee to be eligible. Applications are available at Village Hall and at Cluett Hall. Girls living in Garden City and/or attending school in Garden City in kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible. Call Randy Colahan, girl's intramurals director, at 248-7288 with questions.
Fall Sports Physicals
Garden City High School will hold fall sports physicals Aug. 20 and Aug. 27. Any boys wishing to play junior varsity or varsity football must get his physical in the high school gym at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20 (plan to stay all day to practice). Any other high school athletes can get their physical the same day at 9:30 a.m.
