Kevin Goodman, Adelphi University graduate student and last season's co-captain of the University's championship basketball team, has earned a spot on Great Britain's World University Team, which will participate in the World University Games 2001 in Beijing Aug. 22 through Sept. 1.
The Universiade (World University Games) is an 11-day, multi-sport event that takes place every two years in various cities all over the world. Open to college athletes and recent graduates, this year's 21st Universiade will take place at over 30 venues scattered throughout Beijing and is the first multi-sport event organized in China since its inception as the People's Republic 50 years ago.
Goodman and his Great Britain teammates will spend more than a week in Saudi Arabia to train for the Games and will then proceed to a five-day tournament in Hungary before traveling to Beijing and the World University Games.
Goodman currently resides in Garden City and is an MBA candidate at Adelphi University. A native of London, Goodman attended Adelphi University's undergraduate program, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2000. While he was an undergraduate at Adelphi, Goodman was a guard and forward on the men's basketball team from fall 1997 through spring 2001.
He was co-captain of the basketball team from 1999-2001. During the spring 2001 Division II series, he was a motivating force in the team's 30-game undefeated championship streak. His other campus activities have included treasurer of the Student Government Association (1998-2000), president of the Student Activities Board (2000-2001), mentor in the EXCEL Program for resident freshmen, and an orientation leader for incoming freshmen in both 1999 and 2000.
