Another outstanding summer of entertainment has been planned for the Gazebo. On Thursday, July 19, the Recreation Department will present "Memories of Swing", a 17-piece band that will perform the best tunes of the Big Band era. Concerts begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Gazebo so bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy the sounds of summer!
Our Men's "Over 35" Sunday softball league is into its sixth week of play. A little rain has hampered the games but not the spirits of the players. After four rounds of play, the standings are as follows:

As the playoffs for the Men's spring softball league finish this week, the Recreation Department would like to thank the teams involved for a very smooth and exciting season. Congratulations to Leo's/Melkonian Associates for winning the playoffs and St. James' Lancers for second place. We also like to thank the following teams for playing in our league: Arlington Press, Avengers, Eastenders, Fire, Jameson's, Korax, McMahon's New Originals, Prudential, Thunder and Tully.
The Garden City Recreation Department will again run a youth soccer camp behind the Garden City Pool at Community Park. This instructional camp will be offered to boys and girls ages 6 through 12 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Any child who is 6 years old must be entering first grade in September 2001.
The program is in its 23rd year of operation and is under the direction of Paul LeSueur. Youngsters will be placed in age-appropriate groups and will provide a fun-filled soccer learning experience incorporating the values of sportsmanship.
The soccer camp will be offered in two-hour or five-hour sessions. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch and swim time. The dates and times will be as follows:
Session I- July 30- Aug. 3
Session II- Aug. 6- 10
Cost per session:
$50 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
$100 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
When choosing your session please realize that the five-hour session is a long day and may not be appropriate for younger children.
To register: Registration is by mail immediately- the recreation department cannot be responsible for delays in the mail. A form can be picked up in the recreation department office or you can make your own by including your child's name, address, phone number, grade, birth date, and the session you would like. Please make checks payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City" and mail to the Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530. In-person registration is now being accepted. No telephone registration will be accepted.
