The Garden City Pool will be holding its annual Water Carnival Night from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Family fun and plenty of prizes and surprises will be featured along with a wide variety of games and activities, both in and out of the water for kids of all ages. Free face painting will be available for the kids, along with an appearance by Googles the Gator.

In order to set up for the carnival, the entire pool complex will close at 6 p.m. and will re-open at 7 p.m. for the event. We invite our members to join in the festive atmosphere. Admission is free for all pool members while normal guest fees and restrictions will apply for all guests.

The Garden City Public Library, in cooperation with the pool, will once again sponsor the "Teens and Tots" Story Time program this summer. This program will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 2 p.m. in the Pool Picnic area. The Garden City Swim Team opened their season July 8. The Division II opened with a victory over the Newbridge Swim Team. The Division IV team lost to the Parkwood Swim Team. The Division II team hosted the Veteran's Park Swim team July 15. Pool #2 remained closed until the meet's conclusion. The Division IV team battled the Village of Hempstead II swim team this week.

Even though the weather didn't fully cooperate on the Fourth of July, the members who chanced the elements enjoyed playing "Squeaky Clean" and were able to participate in numerous activities both in and out of the pool. Parent helpers included Billy Kaye, Katie Gorman and Liz Christ.

James and Donna Lark, James and Kaitlyn Gorman and George and Keith Christ won the three-legged race in the kindergarten and under division; James and Tommy Gorman, and Laura and Laurence Longman won in the first and second grade division; Marc and Christian Pando won in the third, fourth grade and above division; Sophia and Kelly Vouzianis won in the 14-year-old division; and Barbara and Katherine Borsari won in the parents division.

Christian and Kelly Vouzianis were also the balloon toss winners. Joey Crapotta, John Connelly and Brianna and Erica Giarraputo were named "Twist" winners while Christopher and Tommy Longman and Melanie and Nicole McHugh were "Tweet Tweet" winners.
