Long Island Athletes Awarded Scholarships at Recent Ceremony
EAB and News 12 held their 14th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards Reception last week at the Woodbury Country Club, at which the winners, representing high schools from all of Long Island, gathered to celebrate their successes. High School guidance counselors and coaches nominated students for this award and the final decision was made by News 12. Each week a different student was featured on News 12 and received a $1,000 scholarship. Three were 30 winners in all.

GCAA News and Events
Summer ball provides children a chance to play baseball during the summer months of July and August. Leagues are separated into three age groups of 8, 9/10 and 11/12 years olds (age as of 7/31/01) They strive to schedule two games per week on weekday evenings exclusively (in almost all cases, depending upon field availability) between Garden City teams and teams from other local towns. The anticipated season start date is July 16 running through the end of August. Team sizes are larger anticipating participation in other summer activities (camps, vacations, etc.) Deadline for open registration is June 15. Applications are available at the GC Recreation Office, St. Paul's or one may print from the website at www.gc-aa.com/baseballapplications.htm.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department is pleased to again offer "Pee Wee" tennis lessons to Garden City residents. This program is designed to introduce children ages 4-8 to the game of tennis. Classes run for 45 minutes Monday through Friday. Class size is limited to eight children per class. Classes will be held at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. according to the following schedule:
