The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming Women's Softball League on Tuesday, June 12. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:
* Teams comprised of current residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City
* Teams of players who resided in the Inc. Village during their high school years
* Teams comprised of employees of the Inc. Village of Garden City.
The fee for this league will be $350, which includes games, ball, umpires, and trophies for the winning team. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package which includes: roster (name, address, phone number for each player), a check for the full league fee, and a copy of each player's current driver's license. Roster packages are now available in the recreation office. The deadline for submitting completed roster packages will be 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.
The recreation department has announced that the Arts and Crafts Program for 4 and 5 year olds will be held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any child who would like to attend this program must be 4-years-old by June 24, 2001 and live in the Incorporated Village of Garden City. Proof of age will be required.
The program will be run from 10:30 a.m. to noon and will be held in two week sessions. The dates and costs are as follows:
Session 1 June 25- July 6 $100
Session 2 July 9- July 20 $100

The Recreation Department's Baseball Camp is still available for children who are 9 to 13 years old and residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The camp will run the weeks of July 16 to 19 and July 23 to 27 at Community Park. The program will stress individual skill development, and the importance of playing together as a team.
The camp will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will cost $50 per week. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. There will be a limit of 50 children per camp session.

PROGRAM NOTE: The baseball camp for 6 to 8 year olds is now filled.
The Garden City Recreation Department will again run a youth soccer camp behind the Garden City Pool at Community Park. This instructional camp will be offered to boys and girls ages 6 through 12 who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Any child who is 6 years old must be entering first grade in September 2001.
The program is in its 23rd year of operation and is under the direction of Paul LeSueur. Youngsters will be placed in age-appropriate groups and will provide a fun-filled soccer learning experience incorporating the values of sportsmanship.
The soccer camp will be offered in two-hour or five-hour sessions. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch and swim time. The dates and times will be as follows:
Session I- July 30- Aug. 3
Session II- Aug. 6- 10
Cost per session:
$50 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
$100 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
When choosing your session please realize that the five-hour session is a long day and may not be appropriate for younger children.

The Garden City Recreation Department will again conduct a Lacrosse Camp for boys entering grades three to six in September 2001. This program will be run by Bob Defliese and Wally Cook and will stress the basic techniques used in lacrosse, such as scooping, catching and throwing. The boys will learn the rules of the game and play intergroup scrimmages.
The camp will run during the weeks of July 2 to 5 and July 9 to 12 at the St. Paul's Athletic Field. All equipment will be provided.
Boys entering third and fourth grades will meet from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Boys entering fifth and sixth grades will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fee is $50 per player, which includes the cost of a T-shirt. There will be a limit of 35 boys per session.

The recreation department is pleased to announce it will be holding a girls lacrosse camp for girls entering grades three to six in September 2001.
This camp will be held on the St. Paul's athletic fields under the direction of Bob Defliese, of the Garden City Schools. This camp will be offered in two one-week sessions during the weeks of July 2-5 and July 9-12. The girls can choose to go to either one or both sessions.
This camp will teach the girls the basic techniques of catching, scooping, and throwing and then will move on to drills and the rules of the game. No previous experience is needed.
Girls entering grades three and four will attend camp from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Girls entering grades five and six will attend camp from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of this camp will be $50 per session, which will include the cost of the T-shirt.
