Lacrosse fans are invited to attend the 6th Annual Father's Day Lacrosse Tournament at Saint Paul's Athletic Field in Garden City on Sunday, June 17 at 11 a.m. The tournament is held in memory of Jay Gallagher, a Garden City High School graduate and college lacrosse player who became a victim of cancer at an early age. Team participation is by invitation. Spectators are encouraged to come and see the finest Long Island lacrosse teams battle it our on the field. All proceeds from the tournament will go to The MIRACLE (Making In Roads Against Cancers Lasting Effects) Foundation.

The MIRACLE Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to making a real difference in the lives of those touched by cancer. Proceeds from this tournament will support that commitment and will be used to help reduce cancer death toll through care, scientific and biomedical research and education. "This tournament is really going to be exciting. To see the best of Long Island's young athletes come together to play in this tournament while at the same time helping others by raising funds for those touched by this dreaded disease is very special and deserves to be commended," said Mike Tenaglia, founder of The MIRACLE Foundation and cancer survivor himself.

The foundation has already established itself as a leader in the fight against cancer. Within the last 18 months, the foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to Dr. Bert Vogelstein, one of the country's foremost cancer clinicians and researchers. He is director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His team of researchers discovered hereditary risk factors for specific cancers and the progression of genetic mutations required for the development of colon cancer. In addition, the foundation has also pledged a minimum $1 million commitment to spearheading the creation and building of a new medical facility at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center. The MIRACLE Foundation Building will be fully staffed by doctors and health professionals from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. "With your support, we can give Long Island cancer patients the best treatment right here at home," Tenaglia continued.

The MIRACLE Foundation invites everyone to attend, enjoy and make a difference. For more information please call The MIRACLE Foundation at 294-1151 or visit www.miraclefoundation.com.
