Construction Updates Given, New Asst. Superintendent Announced at Board of Ed. Meeting
The May 14 Garden City Board of Education meeting began with an update by Construction Manager Frank Guidice of Kreisler Borg Florman (KBF) about the construction progress at the three schools which are currently being worked on. Though the work is progressing well, material was found at Stewart School that had to be tested but the district expects that it will be non-hazardous and dealt with quickly.

SAVE Committee Makes Recommendations for District Policy Changes
The board of education meeting on May 14 began the 30 day comment period for residents of the Garden City School District to be heard on the proposed policy changes in the district's Code of Conduct, as recommended by the Project SAVE Committee.

Chamber to Feature Breeders' Cup and History of Horse Racing in G.C.
The Breeders' Cup, championship of thoroughbred horse racing, is coming to Belmont Park on October 27 for the first time in five years. Established 17 years ago, it is held at a different track in North America each year on a rotating basis. Held at Belmont this October, its excitement as well as its economic impact will be felt throughout the area.

Recreation Department News
There is limited availability for the recreation department's Preschool Activities Camp for village children who are 3.5 to 5 years old by July 20, 2001. The 1 1/2 hour program will include arts and crafts, science, nature, stories, and other activities to keep the preschool child busy and happy.
