The varsity lacrosse team visited East Sandwich, Massachusetts, during spring recess. After playing a successful LAX game, the team had the opportunity to meet a long time Garden City lacrosse follower and dedicated fan - Walter Gallagher, Jr. Gallagher and his family were Garden City residents for many years before moving to East Sandwich. His two sons, Michael and the late Jay, played Garden City lacrosse. While at Cornell, Jay was captain of their team. The annual Garden City Lacrosse Alumni Game is dedicated to the memory of Jay Gallagher. The Gallagher tradition with lacrosse has a history.

Walter Gallagher Sr. was one of the founding members of the TMA. Walter Jr. carried on the tradition. He is a past president and is a life director of the TMA. Walter was involved in the early Rams LAX programs. He took his love of lacrosse with him and was instrumental in starting youth programs in East Sandwich.

Coaches William "Doc" Dougherty and Doug Dwyer arranged a team breakfast for the 2001 varsity lacrosse team to honor Walter. Team captain Peter LeSeur presented Walter Gallagher Jr. with a plaque - in appreciation for the many lives he has touched through his love and dedication to the game of lacrosse.
