Bethany LeSueur, a 5'10" guard from Garden City High School in Garden City, have been named to the 2001 Parade All-American High School Girls Basketball Team.
The entire team, which was selected by coaches, scouts and recruiters, was announced Sunday, April 15, in Parade. It includes 40 athletes from 23 states. California has the most players, with four. Droesch, a three-time Parade pick, has helped her team win three state championships. LeSueur, who made the third team, will attend the University of Virginia.
Members of the Parade All-America Girls Basketball Team, which was founded in 1977 by Haskell Cohen, have traditionally gone on to star in college and professional basketball. Thirty-five Parade All-Americans competed in this year's Sweet Sixteen NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, and 69 play this season in the WNBA. The Washington Mystics and the Utah Starzz have the most, with seven each, including the Mystics' Chamique Holdsclaw, a three-time Parade All-American, and the Starzz's Natalie Williams, Kate Starbird, and Amy Herring.
