Bethany LeSueur of Garden City HS has been named the recipient of the 2001 "Miss New York Basketball" Award by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc. LeSueur was selected by a BCANY committee chaired by Gina Castelli, head coach at Siena College.
The Miss New York Basketball Award is presented by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc., which consists of basketball coaches at the scholastic and collegiate levels from throughout the entire state. The Miss Basketball Award is widely viewed as the top award that a high school basketball player in New York State can receive.
Bethany went over the 3.151 point mark so far this season, which ranks her as second in NYS girls basketball history. Bethany has been named to the First Team All-American WBCA team. She also was nominated for the Wendy's Heisman Award and is a Street and Smith Honorable Mention. Bethany was the Gatorade New York Player of the Year as well as Nassau Player of the Year last season. She has led her team to four straight trips to the Nassau Class B title game.
Bethany will be attending the University of Virginia next fall.
