The recreation department is sponsoring a party for all seventh grade students on Friday, Feb. 2 at the St. Paul's Field House. This party is chaperoned by the recreation staff, and will be held from 7-9 p.m.
Music will be provided by a DJ. The gym will be open for basketball, dancing, and table games. Admission will be $4, and refreshments will be available for a nominal charge.
Parents Please Note: Students will not be permitted to loiter outside the field house during the party, and once the students enter the field house they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. All parents must come into the field house to pick up their child.
On Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m., the recreation department will present a family favorite, "Squeaky Clean," in concert performing a history of rock and roll. Admission to this show is $4 per person, which includes hot dogs, soda, and chips during the intermission. Advance reservations are required for this popular show. To make reservations, please call the recreation office at 465-4075 during business hours no later than Thursday, Feb. 8.
The Recreation Chess Club has begun meeting on Saturdays in the Garden City Library meeting room from noon until 2 p.m.
Under the direction of Paul Dooher, youngsters will have a chance to learn new strategies while playing games each week. Beginners will be taught basic moves and concepts. At the end of the season, a tournament will be held, and trophies will be awarded to the top performers.
There is no charge for this program, and no registration is necessary. Youngsters in grades 3 and up are welcome to join the Chess Club.
Sixth Grade Gymnasium Program
A gymnasium program for sixth grade students is being held at the St. Paul's Field House on weekday afternoons. This program is an extension of the popular elementary school program, and many familiar and exciting activities, such as floor hockey, dodge ball, and other gym games are offered. This program is held according to the following schedule:
* Boys- Tuesdays 3:30-5:30 p.m.
* Girls- Wednesdays 3:30- 5:30 p.m.
Programs are conducted under the direction of Rich Anderson and the recreation department staff, and are open to all sixth grade youngsters who reside in the village, regardless of what school they go to. There is no cost to participate, and no registration is necessary. PLEASE NOTE: Sneakers must be worn for all gym activities.

Due to the unexpected deflation of the Indoor Tennis Bubble, all contract time, lessons, and leagues have been suspended until repairs to the structure can be completed. Contract holders and program participants will be notified when the structure is ready to re-open. Information will also be provided in this column as the repairs proceed. The recreation department appreciates your understanding and cooperation during these unusual circumstances.
