John Murray Kelly, lifelong resident of Garden City, died suddenly on Jan. 14, 2001. He was an information specialist, counselor, coach. A kind and wise man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Pam; beloved children, Katie Gleeson, Garrett Gleeson and Kara Kelly; mother Mary M. Kelly; sisters, Mary McCarraher, Katie Townsend and Dr. Anne Kelly; and brothers, Eddie, Charlie, Billy, Jimmy, Larry and Gerry. He also leaves brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him very much. Justice Thomas J. Mirabile, 92, of the State Supreme Court since 1972, died recently. He graduated NYU School of Commerce in 1927 and later received his law degree from Brooklyn Law in 1930. Thereafter, he actively practiced his profession. In 1967 he received a fellowship from the National College of State Trial Judges from the University of Nevada. In 1978 he received the John T. Madden Memorial Award from NYU School of Business Administration as a Distinguished Alumnus.

He served as a member of the NYC Council from 1947 to 1960 where, as chairman of the Building Code Committee, numerous fire prevention and safety features were incorporated in the NYC Building Code. He served as a Judge of the Civil Court, and in 1972 he was elevated to the NYS Supreme Court until is retirement on Dec. 31, 1984. At his death he was the oldest retired judge in Kings County.

He was born in Brooklyn and with his wife raised their five children in Jamaica Estates, Stony Brook and West Meadow Beach. After his retirement, he and his wife lived in Garden City and continued to summer in Stony Brook and West Meadow Beach.

Surviving him are his wife, the former Lucy D'Onofrio; four daughters, Serena Bogucki, Eloise Bellard and Lisa DiChiara, all of Garden City, and Paula Baker of Danbury, CT; also a son, Dr. Thomas J. Mirabile Jr.; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Chapel, Garden City. Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. No flowers. Please send contributions to Providence Rest, 3304 Waterbury Ave., Bronx, NY 10468.
