Samuels Challenges for Assembly Seat
Since Democratic challenger for the New York State Assembly's 17th District, Emil Samuels, moved to East Williston two years ago, he has tried to get involved in his community, speaking out against issues he feels will affect the quality of life for residents. Now, Samuels would like to fight for what he feels is right on the state level.
O'Connell Seeks Re-election in the 17th A.D.
New York State Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell is used to running for office. For seven years, she served as both a trustee and deputy mayor of the Incorporated Village of East Williston. In 1997, she ran as the Republican nominee for town supervisor of the Town of North Hempstead. Then in 1998, she won the 17th Assembly District seat capturing 83 percent of the vote. When it came to her election in the assembly, the first by a woman in the 17th Assembly District, O'Connell apparently heard her calling.
Recreation Department News
The Recreation Department will again be conducting a children's swimming lesson program at the Adelphi University indoor swimming pool on Saturday mornings. Classes are taught by Red Cross certified instructors, and will be held in two nine-week sessions, beginning on Saturday, Oct. 28 and Saturday Feb. 3, 2001.
Trojans' Football Slaughters Vikings
The Garden City Trojans defeated the Port Washington Vikings 41-21. The boys' football team played an excellent game, led by the running of quarterback Dave Kang and the dominating offensive line.
