The Garden City Trojans football team defeated the Calhoun Colts in a hard fought contest by a final score of 13-0. The Garden City football team is having a successful season so far with a record of 4-0.
In the first quarter Garden City mixed some strong running, by Dan Oppedisano and Bill Hannan, with a Kang pass play to Charlie Manning to move the ball down to the Calhoun 19-yard line. However with fourth down and two yards to go Calhoun's defense stopped the Trojans.
The Colt's stopped Garden City yet again in the second quarter when they intercepted a Kang pass in the end zone. Calhoun's only strength in the game was a few good passes.
It wasn't until the third quarter that Garden City was up on the board. Manning caught a thirty-six yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kang to get the Trojan's first touchdown of the game.
Garden City's second touchdown came with only 2:58 left in the game on a run by Dan Oppedisano. The drive was led by the running of Oppedisano and Hannan behind the blocking of the Garden City offensive line. Oppedisano carried for 144 yards on 15 carries and Hannan had 104 yards on 22 carries. The Colts then worked hard to score but were held by the Trojan defense to preserve the shutout and continue their winning streak.
Garden City will have their next game on Saturday, October 14th. The Trojans will go up against Port Washington away at 2p.m.
