While traveling through their community on a day to day basis, many if not most Garden City residents pass by the Garden City Cathedral located by Cherry Valley and Hilton Avenues. While many are aware of the building's existence, they may not realize exactly how much this landmark has to offer.

Publisher Karl. V. Anton, Jr. Dies at 81
Karl V. Anton, Jr., publisher and editor-in-chief of Anton Community Newspapers, died Saturday morning at his home in North Merrick with his wife Angela Susan Anton by his side. His death followed a short illness of cancer. He was 81 years old.

Garden City Soccer Club Searches for Members
The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club is looking to again establish an older girls division for the fall season. The ages will be high school, grades 9-12. Play will be at the intramural level for Sunday afternoons for the fall season only. Additionally, they are looking to coordinate play with another local town. Practices are not held for these teams. Applications are available at Village Hall and Cluett Hall and are due by August 1, after which they determine if there is enough interest to pursue the division.

Recreation Department News
The Recreation Department Summer Concert Series continues on Thursday, July 13 at 7:15 p.m. with an evening of country music performed by Jackalope Junction. Featuring both traditional country sounds, as well as the more "rock-flavored" contemporary country, Jackalope Junction is one of the area's most popular country bands.
