Dr. James Tolle, from the NYSPHSAA presented the State Championships Scholar Athlete banner to the boys lacrosse team for having the highest academic average of any boys lacrosse team in New York State. This is the second year in a row that the boys have won the state scholar athlete award. The team is a special group of talented young men who captured the state championship both on the field and in the classroom.
The board of education and Dr. Leitman also recognized the athletic achievements of SEPTA students who represented Garden City in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at Mitchel Field on June 2.
The athletes were assisted by students from Athletes Helping Athletes, a GCHS Club. They helped the athletes during the field events and track events, assisted them to the tent and provided water for them.
