On Saturday, April 29, the Garden City Tornadoes (Girls U-13) defeated the Syosset Lady Riders in the most challenging game to date. The Tornadoes roster was reduced from 18 to 12 because of vacations or injuries. This left the Tornadoes with only one substitute. The Syosset Lady Riders were talented and tenacious, and had players to spare. The Tornado endurance was tested against a team that previously beat them 3-1 in the fall.

The defensive team of Carrie Long, Kara Kelly, Amanda LeSueur, and Katie Rose stymied the opposition throughout the contest.
Nicole Perrotta played the entire game in goal despite the fact she was not feeling well.
Ann Kemen was the player of the game scoring all three Tornado goals. Repeatedly Ann used her quick distance speed to frustrate the Lady Rider defense.
The other strikers, Janie Burke and Mary Clare Oakes applied continuous pressure leading to the eventual comeback victory.
The hustle and stamina of midfielders Montse Caccamo, Claire Hartigan, Brigid Moore and Janine Lind were key to the Tornado success.
After the Tornadoes took a quick 1-0 lead Syosset came back with two unanswered goals. Under the guidance and encouragement of coaches Gerry Oakes and Mike Hartigan, the Tornadoes stormed back in the second half to score the tying and winning goals.
Congratulations Tornadoes. Your determination and spirit set an example for everyone. Go Tornadoes, Go!
