Surprise Appointment to Vacant Village Trustee Seat
Mayor Harold Hecken surprised many people last Thursday when he appointed John Mauk, rather than Robert Rothschild, the Estates Property Owners' Association's selection, as the trustee to finish the term of Village Board member Lawrence Kettner, who moved from Garden City last month.

Tornadoes Avenge Lady Riders
On Saturday, April 29, the Garden City Tornadoes (Girls U-13) defeated the Syosset Lady Riders in the most challenging game to date. The Tornadoes roster was reduced from 18 to 12 because of vacations or injuries. This left the Tornadoes with only one substitute. The Syosset Lady Riders were talented and tenacious, and had players to spare. The Tornado endurance was tested against a team that previously beat them 3-1 in the fall.

While the spring has been unusually cool and rainy, the Men's Spring Softball League, held weekday evenings at Community Park has managed to get a few games in. Standings in the two divisions are as follows (standings based on scores as reported to the recreation office as of May 2)
