On Saturday, April 15, the Garden City Tornadoes defeated the Sachem Lady Riders. It was a rainy day with an extremely slippery field. This win put the G.C. Tornadoes in first place for their division.
Nicole Perrotta played a fantastic game as goalie with exciting diving and saves. Perrotta got Tornado of the game! She received a stuffed animal of a Taz for her great playing. She had to play the whole game because the team's other goalie couldn't come. She was wonderful and had very beautiful high and far punts to the forwards. Perrotta helped the team win by not letting the Lady Riders score. Perrotta had a shutout.
Janine Lind, Krista Tenagila, Amanda Russo and Nicole Diller played hard and skillfully. Katie Gardner's superb defense kept the Riders at bay.
Janie Burke as left forward and Carrie Long as sweeper and center forward showed their high spirits and fancy footwork. Clare Hartigan distinguished herself as center fullback with advancing kicks to her forwards. She showed leadership throughout the game. Her father, coach Mike Hartigan, instituted a new play which resulted in Mary Clare Oakes' winning goal.
Krystie Piscopo in her first game back was excellent. Katie Rose as defender and right forward was effective, and contributed to the team. Amanda LeSueur and Brigid Moore's defensive plays were astonishing.
Ann Kemen as right forward used her incredible speed to advance to the goal. Kaitlin Hipworth can always be depended on to send the ball high and far, and to the flag.
Great win Tornadoes. We look forward to your next challenge. Go Tornadoes, Go.
