Hundreds of old cars traveled the rain-slicked streets of Garden City this past Sunday for the annual Easter Vintage Car Parade, hosted by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.
This was the 45th Easter Sunday that the chamber of commerce hosted this procession of vintage cars from all over Long Island. Passengers of the cars ranged from Garden City Mayor Hal Hecken to the Easter Bunny. Cars ranged from Studebakers to an antique Reisterer's Bakery truck to a Volkswagen Bug decorated as a bunny.
The cars proceeded along Franklin Avenue, down Seventh Street to Hilton and back up Stewart Avenue to the parking lot across from Village Hall, where they were parked for judging and display.
Awards were presented to cars from each of the decades as well as the "Most Unique" and "Best of Show" cars.
Children were not forgotten in the holiday hoopla. An Easter Bonnet contest and egg hunt were planned for the time preceding the parade and then children were among the spectators exclaiming over the classic cars as they traveled through the heart of the village. Many children were also among the passengers in the cars on parade.
Despite the rainy weather the crowds turned out for this longtime Garden City tradition.
