Last week, the Trojans of Garden City High School continued their excellence on the boysí lacrosse field as they convincingly claimed their sixth game of the season, stretching their record to an unbeaten 6-0. The Trojansí two most recent victims were a very athletic Hewlett Bulldogs team and a Mepham Pirates team coached by Garden City High School alumnus Steve Finnell.
The mighty Trojans showed some signs of being human in the first half of the Hewlett game, lacking some of that offensive luster they have become accustomed to in recent weeks. Fortunately, the Trojans battled back in the second half thanks to some help from Mickey Blum, Tom Garvey, Glenn Nick, and Bill Hannan on the defensive end of the field. After another steller outing by senior goalie Ryan Gillin, G.C. secured their fifth straight victory of the season with a 12-0 win.
The Trojans continued their winning ways with their sixth win against the Mepham Pirates. This contest proved to be less competitive than the Trojansí previous victory. This win showed just how deep the Trojans really are. Junior mid-fielder Jared Keating swarmed to every ground ball, as he has done all season. Peter LeSueur led the Trojansí offense with several assists, while Dan Flannery and Ryan Capilupi aided the cause with three and four goals respectively. Eight different Trojans scored in the 16-2 thrashing. Spectacular goalie play by Peter Burke in the second half locked up the Trojan victory.
