Laurence Kettner announced at last Thursday's Village Board meeting that he would be moving from the village and thus resigning from his position as trustee at the end of this month.

Kettner, who was appointed to the board in May 1996, and elected to the position of trustee in March the following year, has been serving as a trustee representing the estates section since that time. A resident of the village for 25 years, Kettner is now moving on to take a job in New Jersey. Kettner stated that he has informed the mayor and the estates POA that he would be resigning at the end of the month so they could begin the search process to find his replacement. He added that he would save his good-bye speech for his final meeting which will be on March 16.

In response to Kettner's announcement Mayor Harold Hecken, Jr. responded, "Mr. Rothschild [Estates POA president] has been notified of the vacancy and we've requested that the Estates Property Owners' Association convene their nominating committee to make recommendations, at which time I will have the opportunity to appoint somebody to fill the last year of Mr. Kettner's term."

Estates POA President Robert Rothschild said, in an interview following Kettner's announcement, that he has convened the Estates POA's three- member vacancy committee. "What they do then, is first they decide whether they want to just recommend someone to the mayor, but in this case, because it's a long period of time, it's over a year that Larry's tenure is still open, they want to be sure so they're going to do some advertising," said Rothschild. He explained that notices will go out in the local newspapers, informing interested residents to submit a resume and set up an interview with the vacancy committee. The mayor has the final say in the selection process.

When asked if he has heard of anyone interested in filling the position, Rothschild responded, "Not as of yet," noting that the request for resumes hasn't gone out yet but will most likely go out this week.

The new trustee, appointed to fill Kettner's term will be seated in time for the April 3 organizational meeting.
