The Garden City Girl Scouts are hosting a Bridging Circus at the St. Paul's Field House on Friday, March 10. Any registered Girl Scout may attend.

Welcome to the forgotten world of the weekend matinee. On Sunday, Feb. 27 the Recreation Department will present the hit children's film Iron Giant (PG) at 2 p.m. at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall.
Admission is free and no advance registration is required. Freshly popped popcorn, candy and soda will be available for purchase at Cluett Hall.

Because of the construction now under way at Stewart School, the after school and Saturday morning gym programs which began in November have been canceled. Work is now proceeding on the gymnasium itself and the gym is no longer available to the Recreation Department programs.
In order to accommodate youngsters with after school recreation, the Monday and Friday programs have been moved to the St. Paul's Field House. On Mondays, boys in grades 3-5 will enjoy a sports and games program and on Fridays, girls in grades 3-5 will also have a sports and games program. These programs will be run by Rich Anderson and will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. These programs will continue until March 17.
Because of the mid-winter recess, the Men's Open Basketball program, which is normally held in the middle school on Saturday mornings, will not be held on Saturday, Feb. 26. This program will resume on Saturday, March 4.
Open registration for Tee-Ball/Baseball (ages 5 through 16 as of July 31, 200) and Girls Softball (grades 1 through 9) ended on Jan. 31. Applications received now will require a $25 late fee in addition to the applicable league fee and will be accepted on the condition that if no position is available in the correct league the application will be rejected and all registration fees returned.
Applications can be submitted by mail and can be picked up at the Garden City Recreation Office, St. Paul's or printed from the Garden City Athletic Association web site.
Applications for youth umpires for the Garden City Athletic Association 8/9-year-old divisions are currently being accepted. Candidates must be 13 or over. Applications may be picked up at the Garden City Recreation Office, St. Paul's or printed from the web site.
Garden City Residents have again been afforded the privilege of using Lake Cornelia (Hubbell's Pond) for ice skating. There will be skating on the pond only when the ice has been tested and confirmed safe, which will be indicated by the posting of the traditional "Red Ball" by the entrance gate on Stewart Avenue, across from the middle school.
The Recreation Department reminds our residents that they are not to use the Garden City Golf Club's driveway or parking lot to access the skating area. The driveway and parking lot are restricted for the use of club members only.
When the "Red Ball" is displayed, skating hours will be as follows:
Monday - Thursday 1 - 8 p.m.; Friday 1 - 9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Rules and regulations:
* Skating will be permitted only when the recreation supervisor is on duty
* Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult after sundown
* Heaters will be operated only by recreation personnel
* Heaters will be operated only in designated areas
* Ice Hockey may be played only in designated areas.
* When using Lake Cornelia, do not trespass over golf club fairways as well as neighboring property along Rockaway Avenue.
* Please use the entrance gate provided along Stewart Avenue and stay within the designated areas.
* Please do not telephone the golf club for skating information. Call the Recreation Program Line at 742-5888.

On Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m., relive the swinging sounds that captured the hearts of a generation. The Mike Carubia Orchestra has performed many times at the Gazebo and at prior dances, and audiences are always delighted with their energetic performance.
In addition to the great music, at 9 p.m., you'll enjoy a full dinner, complete with coffee and dessert, followed by more music and dancing. Registration has now started for Centennial Spring Intramural soccer. Children entering kindergarten in the fall through sixth grade for the boys and 10th grade for the girls are eligible to play. Our green registration forms can be found at the Recreation Department in Village Hall and St. Paul's. All registration forms must be received by March 1. The Garden City Centennial Travel Program is looking for people who are interested in coaching U-10 soccer at the travel level. The teams will be trying out in June and start play in September.
