  • NEWS: Roller Hockey Once Again Sparks Controversy and Conflict

    Reports from those in attendance at the last Board of Trustees' meeting all include the tennis match style debate between current board trustee from the West Donald Jenkins and current WPOA Nominating Committee member and former trustee from the West Eileen Collins, whose departure from the Board created the vacancy Jenkins now fills. The debate centered around the condition of the tennis bubble to some extent and particularly the construction of the two new roller hockey facilities at Community Park. What people saw at the meeting was almost a complete re-enactment of correspondence by Collins and Jenkins, which has been made available to this paper, as they were submitted to the Village and made public records and are discussed as follows per request of one of the authors.   • NEWS: Join Neighbors and Friends in Benefiting the AHRC

    Garden City has a long standing tradition of volunteerism and philanthropy, as residents work together to benefit those in need. From the countless groups who work to keep the many schools in the Village operating at their best and providing the finest programs and opportunities for the young people of the Village to the many hospital leagues, cancer societies and friends of organizations to benefit children, Garden City residents can almost always be found working for others in their spare time. The Nassau Association for the Help of Retarded Children is one of many organiztions that is aided by the endeavors of residents of Garden City and on Tuesday, Dec. 7, all are invited to join their fellow neighbors in a luncheon to benefit the AHRC.     Kerri Flynn of Manhasset, representing the Nassau Country Club and Allan Van Nostrand, the director of tennis at the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City are the new Long Island Mixed Doubles Champions. They defeated Kate Schneider of Glen Cove, also from Nassau Country Club and her partner, Tim Mangan, of Bayville, director of Racquet Sports at the Nassau Country Club, by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
