A sweeping and pervasive voter backlash against the Republican party led to a shocking turnabout in local politics last Tuesday, Nov. 2, as Democrats seized control of the Nassau County Legislature, taking the majority by a 10-9 margin. It was a blustery day Saturday, Oct. 23, when the Tornadoes took the field to play the Stony Brook Chargers. Although the Chargers had the wind advantage in the first half, they were unable to score upon the tenacious Tornado defense. Claire Hartigan, Katie Rose and Carrie Long, as defenders, stopped numerous rushes from the attacking Charger offense. The Garden City Tomahawks (boys U11 travel team) played its first state cup game on Sunday, Oct. 24, against the Longwood Jaguars. It was without a doubt the best team effort seen yet from the Tomahawks.
