Democrats Take Majority Control of Legislature
A sweeping and pervasive voter backlash against the Republican party led to a shocking turnabout in local politics last Tuesday, Nov. 2, as Democrats seized control of the Nassau County Legislature, taking the majority by a 10-9 margin. The party also made historically unprecedented gains in town elections.

In what can only be termed as an historic election, two Democrats defeated two Republican incumbents to earn seats on the Town of Hempstead Board, which has not seen a Democrat on it since 1907.

GC Tornadoes Rock Stony Brook
It was a blustery day Saturday, Oct. 23, when the Tornadoes took the field to play the Stony Brook Chargers. Although the Chargers had the wind advantage in the first half, they were unable to score upon the tenacious Tornado defense. Claire Hartigan, Katie Rose and Carrie Long, as defenders, stopped numerous rushes from the attacking Charger offense. Nicole Perrotta, who played goal the entire game, came up with "Tony Meola-like" saves, endured incredible pressure and frustrated the Stony Brook offense.

Tomahawks Win State Cup Game
The Garden City Tomahawks (boys U11 travel team) played its first state cup game on Sunday, Oct. 24, against the Longwood Jaguars. It was without a doubt the best team effort seen yet from the Tomahawks. The Tomahawks players stayed in position, passed the ball well, used their teammates, ran well after the ball, and gave an outstanding performance.
